Established as a means of surviving the Texas drought, Brosig B-Dahl Grass Seed is a family owned business in Eden/Menard Area in West Central Texas.

 

Lifelong Ranchers and Land Conservationists, Clayton and Bonnie Brosig grew their business from personal experience with B-Dahl grass and stand by it's production and benefits to livestock.  Click for Company History.

 

Despite historical drought conditions in Texas (from 1999 to 2012), B-Dahl Bluestem has survived and produced forage much better than any other grass.

 

The Brosigs have planted B-Dahl Grass Seed in pastures and famland from Lubbock to Laredo, Texas, and as far as North Arkansas and the Southern part Missouri with great success.

 

By word of mouth, and great work ethic, Brosig B-Dahl Grass Seed Company has become the source to call for pasture grass production solutions.

 

After testing other grasses, B-Dahl is the only grass the Brosigs currently have planted in thier pastures and farmland. It is the only grass they recommend because it has outperformed others and is preferred by livestock.  For these reasons, B-Dahl is the only grass seed they sell to thier customers.

Why B-Dahl?

In our experience, we have found B-Dahl Grass to excel over other grasses:

 

  • Tremendous leaf production with very little rainfall for more months out of the year compared to other grasses!

    • Established strands of B-Dahl produce through the end of September, where other grasses are seeding out by late May.

  • Livestock prefer this highly palatable grass over many other grasses

  • Insect Resistant in our fields -

    • Army worms will not touch B-Dahl

    • No Ticks or Chiggers are present in B-Dahl

    • Fire ants tend to leave the area where B-Dahl is planted 

    • Our B-Dahl fed cattle have very few external parasites

  • Versatile Grass -

    • B-Dahl will tolerate most climates

    • B-Dahl grows in most soil types with the exception of sandy soil, which is harder to get grass established.

    • B-Dahl will even grow in shady areas, as long as it gets 4 hours of sunlight.

  • Ideal Time to Plant B-Dahl

    • Mid November through June 

    • Mid August for Extreme Southern Regions 

    • B-Dahl seed will lay dormant in the soil until soil temperature and moisture is right.

  • Our experience of carrying capacity in Texas:

    • Range Land Grasses:  Anywhere between 12 - 30 acres/cow

    • B-Dahl Grass:  2 - 4 acres/cow with no fertilizer

  • B-Dahl is extremely productive with no fertilizer but is very responsive to a light dose of fertilizer.

  • Regardless of dry or wet climate and with very little or no expense, B-Dahl will carry more livestock than any other grass available to Ranchers today.

  • ​In our experience, B-Dahl has thrived and excelled in the Southern 1/3 of Missouri, how far North of there it will thrive has yet to be determined.
